Dashcam Captures Violent Semi-Truck Collision Near Weeping Water, Nebraska

WEEPING WATER, Neb. — Dramatic dashcam footage captured the moment a dump truck crossed directly into the path of an approaching tractor-trailer near Weeping Water, Nebraska, triggering a violent collision that injured two people Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred September 29 on Nebraska Highway 50 near Adams Street. Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 9:47 a.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting a serious crash involving commercial vehicles. Local reporting indicates two patients were transported for medical treatment, including one patient taken to Bryan West with traumatic injuries.

Dashcam footage posted publicly after the crash shows the dump truck entering the roadway and crossing into the path of an oncoming semi pulling what appears to be an empty lowboy equipment trailer.

The approaching semi strikes the dump truck almost immediately.

The impact violently tears apart portions of the vehicles, sending debris across the highway as the tractor is heavily damaged. The video provides an unusually clear view of the seconds immediately preceding the collision.

The footage was posted to Reddit’s r/Truckers community by a user who said the crash happened outside Weeping Water that day. The poster reported that the dump body from the white Mack ended up on a nearby hillside and that the dump-truck driver was transported to a hospital. Those details are eyewitness/social-media information and have not all been independently confirmed by authorities.

Commenters familiar with the location identified the dashcam vehicle as sitting on the access road serving the nearby Martin Marietta operation. Multiple commenters also identified the other tractor-trailer as a lowboy traveling north on Highway 50 rather than attempting to turn. Those statements provide context for the footage but should not be treated as an official crash reconstruction.

The video itself shows the dump truck initially positioned near the intersection before moving across the highway as the approaching tractor-trailer rapidly closes the distance. There appears to be almost no time for the second driver to avoid the collision once the dump truck enters its path.

TWOSU News is not assigning legal fault based solely on the dashcam recording. Investigators must determine vehicle speeds, lane positions, driver actions, visibility and other evidence before an official cause can be established.

The publicly available reporting says the vehicles involved included a rock truck with a trailer and that a utility pole was also damaged during the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Nebraska Department of Transportation records explain that official investigator crash reports become available through the state’s Highway Safety Section. NDOT says those reports contain the investigating officer’s crash documentation and may be obtained through the agency once processed.

The footage nevertheless demonstrates the extraordinary forces involved when two heavy commercial vehicles collide at highway speeds.

Within seconds, what appears to begin as an ordinary intersection movement becomes a catastrophic commercial-vehicle collision, leaving both trucks heavily damaged and sending debris across Highway 50.

No fatality had been publicly confirmed in the sources reviewed by TWOSU News as of publication.
