Kent Man Killed in Head-On Crash With J.B. Hunt Tractor-Trailer in Streetsboro

STREETSBORO, Ohio| A deadly early morning crash in northeast Ohio left a 29-year-old man dead after police say his car crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a J.B. Hunt tractor trailer head on.

The collision happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on State Route 43 in Streetsboro.

Investigators say the Nissan Altima was traveling south when it entered the northbound side of the roadway and collided with an oncoming International tractor trailer. Photos from the scene show the truck carrying J.B. Hunt Truckload markings.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, with the passenger car sustaining catastrophic damage.

The Nissan driver, who was from Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity had not yet been released as authorities worked to notify his family.

Police said the truck driver was visibly shaken following the crash but did not appear to have suffered physical injuries.

The collision also sparked a fire in the semi’s engine compartment. Emergency crews were able to extinguish the fire, and police said it did not appear to spread into the Nissan’s passenger area.

State Route 43 was shut down for several hours as investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the wreckage. The road reopened later Saturday morning.

A regional crash investigation team was called in to assist Streetsboro police.

Authorities have not yet said why the Nissan crossed the center line.

The investigation remains active.
